Low Water Rafting

This experience is available approximately from mid-July to the end of January during the low water season. The best months are August to November. The day starts with a short, easy walk through the rainforest into the Boiling Pot below the Victoria Falls. Rafting starts with rapid number 1 (Paddy’s Folly) through to rapid number 21. The top section of the Batoka Gorge (rapids 1-10) features the greatest concentration of grade four and five rapids anywhere in the world.

A light lunch is served on the banks of the Zambezi midway through the trip. The afternoon section (rapids 11 to 21) is gentler in nature, except for the world famous rapid 18, affectionately known as “Oblivion”. The walk out of the gorge is steep (750 vertical feet) and rafters are encouraged to take their time. The guides will accompany you on this hike. Ice-cold soft drinks and beers are served at the top of the gorge before an approximate one-hour drive back to the hotel.

High Water Rafting

This high water trip is available from end January to mid-July depending on the water level. However, if the water levels are too high, the river will be closed for safety reasons. This might occur during April and May.

The day starts with a safety briefing over a cup of tea, coffee or juice. You are then transported to the gorge at rapid 10. You descend into the gorge to start the rafting trip. This trip covers the bottom section of the river, rapids 11 to 25. This section of the river is swift-flowing and features huge wave trains and many whirlpools, the most prominent being found in the narrows between 13 and 14.

Includes:

  • Tea, coffee and juice
  • Snacks
  • Soft drinks and beer at climb-out
  • Transfer back to The Falls Activity Centre

Jet-boat Extreme

Feel the wind in your hair and the cooling spray as you hurtle along at over 80kilometers per hour towards a series of spine-chilling rapids, buzzing rocks and jet-spinning on the mighty Zambezi River, in the spectacular Batoka Gorge below the Victoria Falls. These 6 meter long jet-propelled boats with Chevy engines, equating to an awesome 338 horse power, are capable of taking 11 passengers.

These jet-boats “play” between rapids 23 and 'open season' which is approximately at rapid 27. You are transferred by Land Rover (approximately 1 hour) to your entry point at the gorge. You meander down approximately 880 feet into the gorge where you meet your jet-boat pilot for a briefing. Water and soft drinks are available.

One of the most thrilling 30 minutes of your life is about to begin. After the ride, a long slow walk out begins, where a degree of physical fitness is required. Ice-cold beer and soft drinks await you at the top, after which you are transferred back to the Falls Activity Centre. Jet-boat pilots have been trained in New Zealand and have a minimum of 500 hours experience.
