What are the Road Conditions like?

With very few tar roads, driving through Zambia is a challenge. While the roads are getting an upgrade, the country still has a long way to go. No road side services are available, so try to avoid driving in the dark. Please note that you must watch out for potholes and animals, as it is not signposted. A 4x4 vehicle is advised when going off the main routes.

What are the Rules of the Road?

In Zambia everyone drives on the left hand side of the road. An International Drivers Licence is required. In urban areas the speed limit is 50km/h and the speed limit for national highways is 100km/h. To bring a vehicle into the country requires certain documentation which can be arranged through the car hire company.
