Chiawa is located in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia, on the confluence of the Chowe and Zambezi rivers with the mountains of the Zambian Escarpment as a backdrop.
The Zambezi National Park, Zambia’s newest Park and as such is still relatively undeveloped. The range of animals is not as wide as the other big parks, but the opportunities to get up close and personal with game in their natural habitat are spectacular.
The beauty of the Lower Zambezi National Park, is its state of absolute wilderness. Here, luxury is exchanged for authenticity to ensure you experience the ultimate African safari.
This camp is located in the south-eastern part of Zambia, opposite Zimbabwe's Mana Pools National Park, the Lower Zambezi National Park occupies 4092 square km, with 120km (74.6 miles) of river frontage set in a grove of Mahogany and Acacia trees.
A lovely thatched lounge / bar area with upstairs viewing deck and lots of comfortable furniture is complemented by a similarly styled dining room with al-fresco dining area, set under a large winter Thorn tree and overlooking the Zambezi River within the Zambezi National Park. The Zambezi River is 2 700 km (1677.7 miles) long and runs through the park, attracting much wildlife to its banks.
Although remote, Chiawa Camp still within the Zambezi National Park, and so is easily reached from Zambia's capital city, Lusaka. It is a one and a quarter hour drive from Jeki or Royal Airstrips, however the preferred mode is a 45 minute combined road and boat transfer to / from Royal Airstrip. For those less pressed for time, Chiawa Camp can also be accessed from Lusaka or Kariba by a 6 hour combined road and boat transfer.
