Sausage Tree Camp is situated along the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia which is a relatively new National Park, officially gazetted a National Park in 1983.

The 4092 square kms extent of the Lower Zambezi National Park is bordered by the Chiawa Game Management Area (GMA) in the west, Rufunsa Game Management Area in the east, the Zambezi River in the South, marking the international border with Zimbabwe, and the Great East Road in the North.

With a river frontage of about 120 kilometres (78 miles), the valley floor and the escarpment combined with the plateau gives the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia magnificent picturesque scenery, providing a memorable experience for any visitor.

Though it's the Zambezi Valley and the river that captures all of the game; the Lower Zambezi National Park is opposite Mana Pools National Park, a World Heritage Site across the frontier in Zimbabwe, but has the added advantage of the Rift Valley wall and the escarpment.

Sausage Tree Camp is open in the best game viewing months, which is April to November; the end of the rainy season. The vegetation is lush at this time but as the season progresses the bush dries out, the game gathers and viewing improves.

International arrivals into Zambia can be made through, Lusaka, Livingstone and Mfuwe International Airports. Both Lusaka and Livingstone have daily flights from Johannesburg (South Africa) and Lusaka has 2 direct flights from London every week.

To/From Lusaka:
Majority of the guests fly by Cessna caravan (30 minutes) to 'Jeki' airstrip, which is the camp dirt airstrip in the middle of the National Park. From there you go on a one hour game-drive/transfer through the park to Sausage Tree Camp.

To/From Livingstone:
A direct charter will take about one hour and 45 minutes to Jeki. A more economical option is to fly via Lusaka, you may enquire for the most appropriate option and availability.

To/From Mfuwe:
Mfuwe is the main airport servicing the South Luangwa National Park and is about a one hour and 45 minute direct flight to Jeki. The other more adventurous option is the road and boat transfer from Lusaka. This consists of a 2 ½ hour drive to Chirundu, a border town on the Zambezi River.

From here you can transfer in one of the speed boats for a scenic boat cruise down the Zambezi, to Sausage Tree Camp, a further 2 ½ hours. Depending on numbers (i.e. less than 4 people), this option is not likely to be the cheapest.

Other highlights of the country are the spectacular Victoria Falls where a wide variety of adventure activities are available. These include white water rafting, bungi jumping, canoeing, gorge swinging, Elephant back safaris, jet boating on the rapids, to river boarding, micro-light or helicopter flips over the Falls, fishing and river cruises.

Lake Kariba lies further along the Zambezi and is one of the largest man-made lakes in the world. Good fishing and houseboat sojourns are available here. To the north there are several excellent game parks offering superb game viewing opportunities, as well as Lake Tanganyika, the world's second deepest lake and several other beautiful waterfalls.
